Sheila Chepkirui bested defending champ Hellen Obiri to win her second women’s race at the 2026 New York City marathon Sunday. The two Kenyan runners have now won the last four NYC Marathons combined, with Obiri in the pole position in 2023 and 2025 and Chepkirui in 2024.
Chepkirui finished in 2:24:36, with American Jessica McClain in second at 2:24:42 and Obiri in third at 2:24:43
In the men’s race, Swedish runner Andreas Almgren crossed first (2:06:01) in his first World Major Maratho ahead of Yemaneberhan Crippa of Italy (2:06:14) and Kamohelo Mofolo of Lesotho (2:06:26). Last year’s winner, Kenyan Benson Kipruto, came in fourth at 2:06:27.
Chepkirui’s victory came in the Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 3, capping off a dominant year for the shoe that included the first official sub-two hour finish by Kenyan Sebastian Sawe at the London Marathon and a new women’s world record by Tigst Assefa at the same race. Of the 14 major Marathon winners in 2026, eight wore the Pro Evo 3 and one more won in the Pro Evo 2.
Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3.
The Adios Pro 3 weighs just 97 grams for a men’s size 9.5, coming in 30 percent lighter than its predecessor and with a 1.6 improvement in running economy. It’s the lightest race-legal running shoe ever recorded, and Yomif Kejelch also wore the Pro Evo 3 while becoming the second man to finish a marathon in under two hours just behind Sawe in London.
All three of the London, Berlin and Chicago Marathons were swept by runners in the Pro Evo 3. All six podium finishers at Berlin were also wearing the same shoe, a showing even more impressive than when all three men’s medal runners at the 2016 Olympics wore the original Nike Vaporfly.
“When you think you’ve reached the limit, you actually haven’t. There’s always more you can achieve,” Charlotte Heidmann, Adidas category director for Adizero, told Footwear News for a story on the shoe’s launch in April. “When we introduced the Pro Evo 1, 138 grams was exceptional, and now we’ve reduced it even more. It’s just me talking here today, but collaboration helps to achieve things you didn’t think were possible some years ago.”

Almgren won in the Nike Apex, giving the shoe its first win in a major marathon. Still to release in January, the Apex boasts two Air Zoom units stacked on top of each other at the forefoot and a 40 percent improvement energy return compared to the Alphafly 3. The pinnacle Nike super shoe also offers 10 percent greater energy compared to the Alphafly 4, which just launched in September.
Last year, Obiri set a new women’s course record of 2:19:51 in the On Cloudboom Strike LS while winning the NYC Marathon for the second time. Kipruto won the men’s race in the event’s closest-ever finish while wearing the Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2.

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.
In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.
The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
